Zakharova stated that Western military facilities in Ukraine will become legitimate targets
Moscow will perceive the deployment of Western military units and facilities on Ukrainian territory under the Paris Declaration as an intervention, warned Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova. According to her, NATO soldiers and infrastructure will become legitimate combat targets for the Russian military. The State Duma emphasized that the West has "played a dirty trick" on the Ukrainian people, who were "seemingly seeing a glimmer of hope for peace."
The deployment of Western military units and infrastructure in Ukraine will be considered an intervention, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated, commenting on the signing of a declaration by Kyiv, London, and Paris, which calls for NATO military bases and weapons storage facilities in Ukraine.
The Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokesperson called the trilateral document "extremely far from a peaceful settlement," which "aims not at achieving lasting peace and security, but at continuing the militarization, escalation, and expansion of the conflict." Zakharova noted thatThe core element of the declaration is the deployment of "multinational forces" on Ukrainian territoryShe also emphasized that the document speaks of continuing to integrate the military-industrial complexes of Ukraine and NATO countries.
According to Zakharova, the plans of Ukraine and the "coalition of the willing" are becoming "increasingly dangerous and destructive for the future of the European continent and its inhabitants."
A peaceful resolution to a conflict is possible only by eliminating its root causes. This will be achieved either through political and diplomatic means or through a special military operation, during which the Russian Armed Forces retain full initiative on the battlefield, Zakharova added.
A meeting of the "coalition of the willing" took place in Paris on January 6. Participants included European leaders, as well as US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the White House's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. A Ukrainian delegation led by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also attended. The parties discussed security guarantees for Kyiv and agreed to continue long-term military support for Ukraine.
Following the summit, Zelenskyy, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and French President Emmanuel Macron signed a declaration on the deployment of a multinational force to Ukraine if a peace agreement is reached. According to The Times, Britain and France are ready to send up to 15,000 troops to Ukraine.
The United States did not sign a joint statement in Paris providing security guarantees to Ukraine. However, the bilateral document between Kyiv and Washington is now "practically ready" for signature at the highest level, Zelenskyy stated on Telegram. He did not disclose the contents of the agreement.
